Preventive Dentistry

It is easy to keep your teeth and gums in good health. If you maintain the simple routine of brushing and flossing your teeth everyday, coupled with regular dental visits it can prevent many future dental problems—saving you money over the long term and removing the likelihood of discomfort in your day to day activities.

Periodontal (gum) disease is a mouth infection caused by bacteria that destroy the gums and jawbone. Infection, tooth loss, and health problems are the results of untreated gum disease. Most gum disease can be prevented or controlled by cleaning the bacteria from the teeth. This is accomplished through brushing, flossing, and professional dental cleanings

There are four different types of dental cleanings, each with its own purpose, instruments, technique, and time requirements. Dental hygienists are trained to render these cleanings based on the doctor’s diagnosis of the patient’s specific type of gum problem. Patients may receive any or all of these types of cleanings at some time in their lifetime depending on their circumstances.
